If you are feeling energetic and want a secluded beach, Boat Harbour Beach (LH 4) is located about 3 km and a 1 hour walk from the airport. It’s worth the walk just to see this 70 m long, 25 m wide steep boulder-cobble beach. It is composed of dark basalt and white coral boulders, reflecting the surrounding basalt rocks and coral reef just offshore. The beach faces northwest and lies 400 m inside the harbour, which results in waves usually less than 0.5 m that lap up against the shiny boulders. Two freshwater streams exit either end of the beach and a picnic table and barbeque are provided. Waves are usually low, however water can be deep close in to shore. While it is reasonable for swimming and snorkelling, do not swim alone or during higher waves, as they crash on the boulders and generate rip currents against the rock platforms.
Beach Length: 0.07km
