On the western side of St Georges Head the rocky shoreline turns and trends north for 3 km to Shelly Point. In between are six small pocket beaches (NSW 440-445) spread along 2 km of the 50 m high rocky coast. They can only be accessed on foot via the St Georges Head walking tracks or by boat. Kitty Beach (NSW 440) lies 1 km north of St Georges Head and is a 50 m long west-facing pocket of sand, sheltered by its orientation and Kitty Point. Only low waves reach the 5 m wide beach, which is backed by densely vegetated slopes, with groundwater draining across the beach. Five hundred metres to the north is the first of the three Black Harbour beaches. Beach NSW 441 is a 30 m long pocket of sand located in a small rocky bay, with rocks extending along the southern half of the beach. Waves are low and dense vegetation surrounds the beach. Beach NSW 442 is a 50 m long reflective sand and gravel beach fronted by rocks. Beach NSW 443 lies in lee of the rock reef which forms the sheltered 'harbour' and consists of a 30 m long strip of sand, with a few stunted mangroves growing in lee of the reef. The shallow sheltered area behind the reef is known as Black Harbour and provides an anchorage for small boats.
