Beares Beach is the surfing beach for Bermagui, located on the south side of Blue Head and facing east into the swell. The main road runs on the slopes just behind the beach, with best access from the car park behind the smaller northern beach, with the main beach backed by houses and a densely vegetated bluff which rises to 40 m in the south. The northern beach (NSW 626) is 250 m long, bounded by rocks and reefs, together with a central reef, resulting in two permanent rips draining the surf. It is backed by bluffs rising to Scenic Drive with access paths down to the beach. The main Beares Beach (NSW 627) continues south of the rocks for 730 m to a series of jagged rocks and reefs. It is a more open beach receiving waves averaging 1.5 m which usually maintain a single attached bar cut by permanent against the boundary rocks and two sheeting central beach rips. A coastal walk runs along the top of the cliffs from Beares Beach down to Jerimbut Point.
