Nelson Beach (NSW 655) is located in a 600 m wide rocky bay bounded by the northern Baronda Head and southern Wajurda Point. The beach curves around the rear of the bay for 800 m from the narrow open entrance to Nelson Lagoon, south to the lee of Wajurda Point (Fig. 4.417). It is backed by a 300 m long spit in the north with a low foredune, then densely vegetated slopes rising in the south to 40 m, with access and a picnic area behind the centre of the beach. Waves enters the bay and spread out along the beach averaging 1-1.5 m. These maintain permanent rips in the north in association with the inlet and against the southern rocks, with usually 2-3 shifting beach rips in between.
Beach Length: 0.6km
General Hazard Rating: 6/10
