Hearns Lake beach (NSW 92) curves to the south of Flat Rock Point for 2 km to the next reef-tied foreland. The lake and associated wetland backs most of the beach, with a usually blocked entrance towards the northern end. The beach is accessible from a caravan park located just north of the lake and from the Sandy Beach car park located just to the south of the southern rocks. There have been proposals to develop this area further, but at present the wetlands hold sway. The beach faces east and receives waves averaging 1.5 m for most of its length. These form a rip-dominated double bar system with up to eight rips cutting the inner bar and an outer bar forming following high seas. Wave height drops slightly in lee of Flat Top and the southern rocks to form a continuous bar. However permanent rips are also located against these rocks. read more
