To the west of Manly Cove is 1.5 km of south-facing rocky shore containing three small beaches (SH 7-9). The first is Delwood Beach (SH 7), located 200 m west of the cove. It consists of a 30 m long strip of high tide sand fronted and bordered by rocks and patches of sand, which widen to 70 m at low tide. It is backed by a narrow sloping grassy reserve, then the coastal walkway, with steps leading down to the western end of the beach. Fairlight Beach (SH 8) lies 300 m further west and is an 80 m long, south-facing pocket of coarse sand, with a small rock pool occupying its eastern end. There are rocks to either end and some just offshore. The beach receives low swell through the heads, which surges up the steep beach. It is backed by a narrow grassy foreshore reserve, the coastal walk then apartments (Fig. 4.224), with access via the walking track and from the backing Lauderdale Street. The Esplanade beach (SH 9) is located on the rocky point that forms the western boundary of Fairlight Beach. It consists of an east-facing 50 m long strip of high tide sand fronted by a continuous 30 m wide intertidal rock platform, then deeper water. It is backed by a sloping grassy reserve, the walkway and houses.
