Inside the entrance to Newcastle harbour are two small beaches, both formed as a result of construction of the harbour entrance walls. On the north side is Little Park beach (NSW 240) formed following construction of the north entrance wall and the shorter Pirate Point entrance wall which form the boundaries of this 200 m long beach. The beach is located inside the Hunter River entrance, immediately south of the southern end of Stockton Beach. It faces east out towards the 500 m wide entrance, with only low refracted wave reaching the shore. The waves maintain a steep reflective beach. However its proximity next to the river, with its deep channel and tidal currents makes this a potentially dangerous location to swim. It is backed by a park, car park and an Olympic swimming pool, the downtown centre of Stockton. On the south side is 250 m long Horseshoe Beach (NSW 240S), which is bordered by the southern entrance wall and an inner harbour wall. The beach is backed by the Horseshoe Beach Reserve which includes a low fenced foredune, park area and car park.
Beach Length: 0.2km
General Hazard Rating: 3/10
