Bonny Hills is located on the sloping sedimentary rocks of Grants Head, which rise to 60 m at the water tower. The rocky shore begins immediately south of the surf club reserve and continues south around Grants Head for 2 km. Located on the northern side of the head are two small, beaches (NSW 175 & 176). Sponys Bay beach (NSW 176) extends to the base of the slopes just south of the surf club. It is a 200 m long sand beach located below 15 m high vegetated bluffs. It is fronted by near continuous intertidal rock platforms, with a sandy gap at the mouth of Greenhills Gully at the southern end used to launch boats across the beach. A caravan park is located on the bluffs. Waves break over the rocks with usually low waves at the shore. Bartletts Beach (NSW 177) commences at the end of the rock platforms and is a curving 300 long northeast-facing sandy beach, backed by a high tide boulder beach and well vegetated slopes rising to 30 m. Rocks dominate each end and extend into the surf. The wide low gradient fine sand beach usually receives waves averaging about 1 m which maintain an attached bar cut by a central beach rip, with rips forming against the rocks during higher waves. A car park is located on the southern bluffs.
