Bonny Hills is located on the sloping sedimentary rocks of Grants Head, which rise to 60 m at the water tower. The rocky shore begins immediately south of the surf club reserve and continues south around Grants Head for 2 km. Located on the northern side of the head are two small, beaches (NSW 175 & 176).
Sponys Bay beach (NSW 176) extends to the base of the slopes just south of the surf club. It is a 200 m long sand beach located below 15 m high vegetated bluffs. It is fronted by near continuous intertidal rock platforms, with a sandy gap at the mouth of Greenhills Gully at the southern end used to launch boats across the beach.
