On the south side of 50 m high Grants Head the coast trends south-southwest for 4 km to the rock training wall at the mouth of Camden Haven Inlet (Fig. 4.97). In between are two beaches. The northern Shark Beach (NSW 177) extends for 400 m between the Grants Head and the smaller 40 m high Shark Beach headland. It is backed by slopes rising to 30 m and a car park overlooking the beach and a small creek draining across the north end. The beach was mined for rutile in the 1960s but has now been restored and part of Grants Head Reserve. The beach faces east-southeast, receiving waves averaging 1.6 m, which maintain a double bar system, with permanent rips against the headlands, with a shifting central beach rip.
