The once migratory mouth of the Cooks River is now trained by two rock walls 100 m apart at the entrance. The northern wall joins to a seawall backed by the old control tower for Sydney airport. Wedged in between the end of the seawall and the wall for the western airport runway is a 300 m long south-facing beach (BB 9) (Fig. 4.254). This is a low energy, reflective beach facing south along the runway, with planes continuously taking off and landing adjacent to its eastern end. The low gradient sandy beach is backed by a small low vegetated dune, then a gated road. It can be accessed off General Holmes Drive between 5am and 10pm daily, with access from a large car park located on the western seawall.
Beach Length: 0.3km
