Port Gawler beach (234) is the first beach north of Adelaide and is located at the end of the Port Gawler Road. While a town was surveyed in 1839, little has changed in the area since. The 4.5 km long beach is backed by tidal flats, which have been developed as salt evaporation ponds. The beach consists of a high tide sands ridge, fronted by 3 km of tidal flats, with extensive mangrove on the flats south of the beach. The southern mangrove area is part of the Port Gawler Conservation Park. A 4WD track runs along the back of the beach and there is no development other than a camping area.
Beach Length: 4.5km
