At the very northern apex of the gulf is 5 km of open tidal flats backed by two low high tide beach ridges. On the eastern side is 3.2 km long beach 244, which is accessible via 3 km long 4WD track across the backing salt flats. It is bordered on the south by mangroves and the west by a tidal creek. To the west of the creek is the second beach (245) a 1.6 km long southeast facing beach ridge fronted by the wide tidal flats. Neither beach is suitable for swimming owing to the shallow flats.
