At the southern end of the Phillip Island Bike Racetrack is a section of 40 m high basalt cliffs and bluffs, fronted by near continuous rock platforms and reefs. Tucked in at the base of the bluffs are two narrow sand platform beaches in Cunningham Bay, called The Gap and Racetrack. A similar beach, Jessie Beach, lies 200 m to the south-west, in lee of Jessie Island. The Gap Road terminates on the bluffs above the Cunningham Bay beaches, while a walk around the bluffs or rocks is required to reach Jessie Beach.
All three beaches are somewhat sheltered by the reefs, and waves average 0.5 m at the shore. However they only reach the narrow beaches at high tide, with exposed rock flats fronting the beach at low tide.
