Hen and Chicken Beach is named after the offshore reef of the same name. It is a short, 150 m long beach, backed by steep, 20 m high bluffs with bright red bases. McHaffie or Grossard Point forms the northern boundary, with Grossard Point Road terminating at a car park on the point. A second car park is located on the bluffs behind the beach. The beach itself faces north-west and usually receives low swell, less than 0.5 m; and wind waves, which build the narrow, relatively steep beach. Reef flats are exposed along the length of the beach at low tide.
