Between Craigie Beach and Linley Point is a 3 km section of rocky coast dominated by 20 to 30 m high sandstone bluffs. In amongst the bluffs are four beaches: the longest being Birdrock at 550 m, while Dava is 150 m and Fossil and Fosters are both 80 m long. Although the Esplanade runs along the top of the bluffs behind the beaches, and there is a continuous foreshore reserve west of the road, access is restricted to a steep climb down the bluffs. There is a picnic area above Fossil Beach. Birdrock Beach is embayed by headlands, with reefs off the centre; while the remainder are all bounded by steep bluffs and rocks, with a seawall also running off the northern end of Dava Beach. The four beaches face west and are exposed to westerly winds and waves which, during strong winds, produce waves high enough to form a bar and rips at Birdrock and Dava. Fossil and Fosters Beaches are more protected by the bluffs and tend to have narrower, steeper beaches.
Beach Length: 0.55km
