At Point Roadknight, the coast turns 180° and runs due west for 4 km, before finally swinging to the south in lee of Urquhart Bluff. In the vicinity of the point, calcarenite reefs dominate, and right on the point is the 100 m long, south facing Point Beach. Beyond this beach, the shoreline continues uninterrupted to Urquhart Bluff. The Point Roadknight end has beach access tracks on the point and off Melba Parade, while the Great Ocean Road backs most of the remainder of the beach, with a large car park in lee of Urquhart Bluff. Both beaches receive waves averaging 1.3 m, which combine with the fine sand to build a double bar system along the main beach. Rips cut the inner bar every 400 m and there are more widely spaced rips on the outer bar. The outer bar only breaks during bigger seas. read more
