Deepdene Beach (WA 631) commences on the northern side of the calcarenite and continues to the northwest and finally west to for 5.3 km to terminate in lee of Cape Hamelin. The southern half has extensive beachrock resulting in slightly lower waves, numerous tidal pools and some permanent rips along the shore. The northern half, while free of beachrock has more persistent beach rips, spaced about every 300-400 m, including a small permanent rip against the northern boundary rocks, which provides the most accessible surf breaks on the beach. Wave energy increases up the beach, averaging just over 1.5 m along the northern few kilometres. Scattered reefs extending 2 km off Cape Hamelin, together with Geographe Reef and Minns Ledge contribute to the lower breaker wave heights. The entire beach is backed by several blowouts, then generally well vegetated dunes, blanketing the calcarenite, and rising to a maximum of 173 m and extending up to 4 km inland. Turner Brook drains across the beach 1 km southeast of the cape. The Caves Road essentially runs along the eastern boundary of the dunes with a camping area is located in the dune area behind the northern end of the beach.
Beach Length: 0.005km
General Hazard Rating: 7/10
