Beach WA 1608 commences 6 km north of the town at the small calcarenite bluff that separates it from beach WA 1607. It then trends straight south for 9 km to the boat harbour, which has cut the beach into two (Fig. 4.361). For its entire length the beach is fronted by shallow sand flats extending 200-300 m into the gulf, with the fringing reef paralleling the beach approximately 1 km offshore. The beach is backed by a narrow band of foredunes rising 10-15 m in height. The communication station backs the northern half of the beach and access is restricted. Along the town section, called Town Beach, the best access and facilities are at Warne St, where there is a designated swimming area, foreshore reserve with picnic facilities, playground, and toilets. The Exmouth Yacht Club and a boat ramp are located at the southern end of the beach, while the 300 m long boat harbour breakwater is located 500 m to the south.
Beach Length: 9km
General Hazard Rating: 2/10
