Sorrento Beach (WA 858) is one of Perth’s traditional northern beach suburbs and site of the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club. Waves average about 1 m and maintain a relatively steep beach with a narrow, continuous attached bar. It is part of the first continuous sandy beach north of Trigg Island. However, problems with beach erosion have lead to the construction of three 50 m long rock groynes across the 600 m long beach. The groynes are located either side of the surf club, while 500 m north of the club is the large curving southern breakwater of Hillarys Boat Harbour, which extends 1 km out to sea. There is a large car park off the highway adjacent to the surf club. Today the surf club with its high watchtower sits between the two groynes, with a seawall fronting the club and car park.
