Beaches WA 1844-1847 are located on barrier islands along the westernmost 10 km of the bay. Beach WA 1844 commences on the eastern side of Butcher Inlet directly opposite Cossack. This is a very low energy beach, with extensive mangroves and 1.5 km wide tidal flats. The mouth of a 400 m wide shallow inlet marks its eastern boundary where beach WA 1845 curves round into the inlet mouth for 1.3 km. Both beaches are part of a 4.5 km long, 500 m wide barrier island that consists of a series of recurved spits to either end, with a central linear dune rising to 18 m. There is moderate dune activity along the beach and on the recurved spits. The island, which is aboriginal land, has vehicle access across the backing 5 km wide zone of salt flats and inner beach ridges.
Beach Length: 1.7km
