Cullen Beach (NT 136) is Darwin’s newest beach. It was constructed in the mid-1990s as part of the redevelopment of Cullen Bay, which replaced the tidal flats and mangroves with a lock-controlled marina and waterfront housing estate. The 250 m long beach is located on the northern side of the development, contained between two seawall-groynes (Fig. 5.21) and backed by a continuous rubble wall. It is also backed by a large car park and various commercial facilities, then the Cullen Bay marina facilities. On the eastern side of the lock-controlled Cullen Bay harbour is a 100 m long artificial strip of sand backed by a grassy reserve, called Kahila Beach.
Beach Length: 0.25km
