To the south of Donovan Point is a gently curving 2 km long beach (Fig. 1.4). The northernmost section lies just below Cooktown Road and is the most accessible and most exposed section, with waves usually breaking across the beach. Immediately to the south coral reefs fringe the beach, lowering waves and producing extensive intertidal sand flats, the central section of which are scattered with mangroves.
