Point Vernon is the largest rocky promontory on the coast between Noosa and Bundaberg, a distance of 170 km. Sandy beaches extend to the north, while to the south the last beaches end in the morass of the Great Sandy Strait, before the massive Fraser Island is encountered. The generally low, 5 km2 rocky point is surrounded by five low energy beaches. Gables Point beach (1523) runs for 3.5 km along the south facing side of Gables Point. It is backed by The Esplanade and a continuous foreshore reserve. There is a small boat ramp at the eastern tip. The beach consists of a steep, narrow high tide beach fronted by 50 to 100 m wide, linear rock flats.
Beach Length: 3.5km
