Tamboon Inlet consists of a 3 km long coastal lagoon which connects the Tamboon River with the sea. The inlet mouth forms the western boundary of this beach, which extends for 2.5 km from the western Clinton Rocks beach. A narrow field of active sand dunes backs the beach. The beach can be reached by boat from Tamboon Landing; otherwise it is a long walk along the beach from Clinton Rocks. The beach faces due south and receives waves averaging 1.5 m. These produce a 200 m wide double bar system, with an inner bar that is often detached and cut by rips every 300 m; then a deep trough and an outer bar.
